I've been reading keith richards' bio, 'life' so of course I'm going to post on 'keith as style icon'...

my favorite quote from the book comes from cecil beaton having breakfast in morocco with the stones in 1967, who describes richards as wearing "an 18th century suit, long black velvet coat and the tightest pants...Keith himself has sewn his trousers, lavender and dull rose, with a band of badly stitched leather dividing the two colours."

christian schoeler, german artist, is rocking my world with his beautiful work. he lists 19th century painting as one of this influences which I think is what I love so much about his pieces.

the house that was

some 'behind the scenes' from the shoot at the hugh buhrich house which was the most unbelievable house. hugh's son neil now lives there and talked me thru a lot of the features, such as - no railings on anything! his father abhorred them so the house sits on a 200 ft cliff overlooking the beach with rail-less balconies and a rail-less spiral staircase perched out over a rock face - spectacular but vertigo inducing in my case. you can see jonnie standing in the doorway on the 'balcony' in 2nd shot. the bright red bathroom was a personal fave & I love the way neil & his wife had the place decked out, lots of mid century furniture with ethnic touches (an awesome moroccan rug was coveted, pic 6) which I thought was a nice touch and kept it from looking too 'teamed with the theme' & much more personal. much time was spent between shots gazing down at the water where we spotted an enormous stingray floating about - I tried to take a pic but it's too hard to make out funnily enough. apparently there are sharks down there too but none appeared after much patient waiting. the shoot was a huge success, I can't wait for the images to start rolling out - a few as per below post. steph was the most gorgeous sweet girl (she turned up with her mum in tow at a chilly 5am!) and was the consummate professional, holding ridiculous poses for hours on end in the cold. and jonnie mananged to look super hot whilst entertaining us all with stories of his life living between beach breaks and dating the head designer for dior - life's tough.

some imagery from our latest campaign is doing the rounds - get a sneak peak here & here. we shot in the most awesome house in sydney (designed by hugh buhric - andy & I want to live there) with david mandelberg and the beautiful steph cherry who is a real sweetheart. tamila purvis did an awesome job styling as per usual & I was seriously tempted to raid (read steal) her crazy accessory collection which included her amazing mania mania line. we kept it all pretty simple & the result is beautiful classic wrangler - I've never been more excited about a shoot than this one!

ok, I've been super lazy on the post front lately. we've just got back from london, stockholm & l.a scouring flea markets and scoping talent along with many recent jaunts to sydney shooting our hot new campaign & lookbooks....there's been a bit going on to say the least! will attempt to upload some of what's been happening over next few days but am mildly jetlagged though so it could all go out the window once I get back to my couch. In the meantime, our summer lookbook has been cropping up on denimology & oyster among others - check out our Super Cheeky, the shortest short short out there bar none. If you have confidence to burn and killer pins I suggest you rock them au naturel, for the rest of us, working them with a pair of the blackest opaques and the highest heels will give you legs forever.......

I just finished reading patti smith's latest book, 'just kids' and am re-inspired by this awesome woman. she writes simply & beautifully of her early struggles as a poet and artist and recounts many touching (sometimes depressing) events in her lifelong friendship with robert mapplethorpe. I have to admit I didn't know a lot about her before apart from her music and seeing the picture above and many other iconic images taken during this time, I realise now, means so much more than the cool kid outfits or rock star looks I originally saw many times before. a really good read and something I plan to revisit again.

a collaboration with comme des garcons & undercover, newly launched perfume holygrace & holygrapie have the best looking bottles I have ever wanted to own. the images are at the back of the bottle so looks gorgeously hazy when viewed through the front like a ye olde holy water bottle (which I guess was the idea). I didn't love the fragrance enough to splurge, being the fragrance nazi I am, but was almost tempted to buy for the bottles alone...!

generally speaking, I am not a huge perfume fan. to be honest, I prefer none at all in most cases. I hate the idea of smelling someone before they enter a room and resent being slapped in the street by groups of girls (or worse, guys) all sporting one blanket of overpowering scent. Its kind of like being shouted at. I won't go on but the manifesto on the cb i hate perfume site fairly covers it. Then I came across this perfume in the states last august and ended up not being able to leave without a bottle of winter 1972. it instantly reminded me of my childhood or something familiar and the second I smelt it I knew I'd found 'the one'. always happens when you least expect...

my talented friend kerryn has designed a collection for soles new winter range.
